Mix Those Prints

Old Navy top.  Gap skirt.  Vintage scarf.
ModCloth clutch and heels.
Pattern Mixing | Everybody, Everywear

I really wish there was an awesome, specific, 'ah-ha' story I could share with you when I realized it was ok to mix and match prints together.

But I don't have one.  Sorry.  So I'll generalize:

there was a moment. probably in my bedroom. probably standing in front of my mirror. probably with some crazy-craze combination of prints or patterns on. and I probably was wondering if I could actually wear whatever outfit it was into the real world.

And then a lightbulb goes off in my head-

a.) um, I can buy dresses or tops or whatever with not-necessarily-matching-prints on them.
b.) I've seen such things in real live stores.
c.) heck, I usually covet said items and want to take them home with me.
d.) so why can't I create them out of the separates that I already own?

But in all honesty, I don't know when I started rationalizing the mixing of prints.  But boy, I'm sure glad I did.
Because prints are fun.  And interesting. And you have to be sorta clever to make the outfit work together.
Kinda like a clothing collage.  And who doesn't love collages?

Monday's Mix: Well, almost.

 Saturday's sundress.  Wednesday's shorts.  Friday's sandals.

Alright, you got me.  I added a key element to this outfit that was not originally worn last week.
But you know what?  I make the rules.  So I can break the rules.

Ha. Take that, black-and-straw hat.
You're lucky you're so cute and can get away with this kind of stuff.
Other hats may not have been so lucky.

Sundress

H&M dress.  J.Crew hat.  Steve Madden oxfords.
Vivi Dot Fawn Watch Necklace.

One of my favorite parts of summer: Sundresses.
One of my favorite parts of this sundress:  It was seven dollars.
Thanks H&M.  I love you.

Black and Blue

Audrey 3+1 dress.  F21 sandals.

Who says you can't wear black and navy together?
Not me, that's for sure.

Not to jinx it or anything, but I think summer has finally arrived in Seattle.
Great.  Perfect.
Nice timing Mr Sunshine.  Ummm, where were you the whole month of July?

One Outfit, Two Ways

H&M menswear shorts.  ModCloth Stack Time Heel.  Soda boat shoes.
Vintage bead necklace.  Vivi Dot Fawn watch necklace.

I love it when separates come together in such a way that you can either dress them up or down.

So here we go:
*boat shoes, piled hair, and low-slung, slouchy shorts for comfy daywear.
*big ol' platforms, a more polished 'do, and a high gathered waist for a lovely summer happy hour.  Hmm, could even wear this at the office too, with a sassy blazer thrown over the white tank.  Yep, that'd work.

What can I say? The possibilities are endless.  Again, I profess--
I love clothes.

I Like It A Latte

Dress and blouse: Target.  F21 boots.
Because of my 'no dancing in the summer' thing, I have had a lack of sneaky dance outfit posts.  So I'm gonna make it up to you all (you're welcome) by sharing another one of my coffee-making outfits.

Now, most mornings when I'm stumbling out of bed around 4am I just really don't care what I put on.  Black pants? check. Black collared shirt? awesome.

But some days I need more than that.  Like today.

So I'm pretty pleased with myself and how tricksy I was because that khaki skirt is really a khaki dress.  I've had it forever and never worn it to work before because the only two dress code options for a top are black or white.

Not sure why it took me so long to think of this, but, um, DUH.  Put a white shirt over the top of the dress.
Geeeeeez, really?  What an obvious solution.  Silly Stacie.

Anyway, here is my take on trying-to-maintain-my-style-while-staying-in-dress-code outfit.  Hope it thrills you to no end.

Monday's Mix: Let's Romp!

Wednesday's romper.  Tuesday's shoes.  Friday's scarf.

I love rompers because:

They're like a dress, but with holes to put your legs through.
You don't have to worry about coordinating a top and bottom.  Just throw it on and you're set.
If you're feeling creative, you can layer or accessorize the heck out of them.
They are comfortable.  Like a onesie for big kids.

Do I have you convinced yet?
So come on, throw on your favorite one and let's take a romp!

here we go...
